My Training
My career as a Video Camera Operator began when I studied at Staffordshire University on a BSc Hons Degree in Film Production Technology. Originally I wanted to be a director, but as the course progressed I realised that I wanted to be a Video Camera Operator.
I was taught in depth and given hands-on training by industry-experienced staff and had access to world-class industry-standard TV and Film facilities at Staffordshire University. The course provided me with skills in video and image production, video editing, animation, colour grading and scriptwriting. I got to use state-of-the-art digital cinema cameras, as well as HD and HDSLR video cameras, lighting equipment and grip gear such as track & dollys, jibs and variety of camera rigs.
I was trained in the use of film editing software programs such as Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer, Premiere Pro, Encore, Photoshop, Speedgrade and After Effects. I was also taught the production stages of Film, TV and Corporate productions and how to integrate HD shooting, location audio recording, lighting, video editing, scriptwriting, production management and producing into a single project.
As I progressed through university, I developed advanced editing and specialist cinematography skills, and knowledge in other key post-production such as compositing. Through my module choices, I develop a more technical understanding of video, motion graphics, title design, DVD and Blu-Ray applications and video compression.
As well as learning a great deal from the course, I met a great number of like mined people, most of whom I still keep in touch with and work with now in the industry. During the course, we pooled out talents to complete our assignments and we do the same when working on productions together.
University Graduation Awards 2012.
I graduated with a 1st class honours and came first in the film category at the university’s graduation awards. My final year dissertation was to study camera composition as a DOP and how it is used to tell stories.
