They say that your film is made in the editing suite, and that is what I do when I edit. I find the narrative and focus on what will captivate an audience.
Although I am primarily a DOP and camera operator, I am fully capable of editing to a high standard. I have developed in-depth skills in post-production as a freelance video editor using software such as Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects and Photoshop.
When editing, I like to think outside the box as I feel that this not only attracts more attention, it is also something fresh in a world full of the norm. I am a perfectionist and I want to ensure clients are happy with their video, I therefore triple check my own work for any errors or imperfections. On several occasions I have been working on multiple projects, sending a draft edit to a client and then immediately loading up another project to continue editing. I am well accustomed to this way of working and enjoy being busy.
When working on a new project, I like to plan ahead and spot any potential problems before they occur. These include factors such as frame rates, the final delivery file format, media storage space and receiving the necessary marketing elements from the client in good time. In our industry, some factors are out of our control and occasionally things do not go according to plan. However if a client has an urgent deadline, I have no problem working through the night to ensure they have their video on time. I strongly believe that the key to being a good video editor is good data management and archiving.
